John Hewitt, our Chairman and Founder with his wife Pat Hewitt (deceased), founded the company in 1969. John having spent almost all of his working life in the trade and to this day his passion has not waned. The company retains its strong family connections with youngest daughter Sara Long a Director and Paul Hewitt son, the Sales Director both working in the Company. Johanna Norton the eldest daughter has her own business based in Norfolk. I joined the motor trade in 1980 having always been in sales and have been with NMG for over 50% of that career period and still counting.
The Company has continued to grow we now operate from four locations in Norwich. Since 1969 we have supplied customers far and wide, including overseas, with over 46,000 new and used vehicles sold. We perform over 13,000 vehicle services a year in our workshops, and almost 4,000 MOT's a year at the two MOT Centres.
No good Company can survive without good staff and we are delighted to have awarded almost 70% of the workforce with long service awards, the longest awards being 45, 35 and 32 years. In addition, we have a healthy number of staff who having reached official retirement ages, asked us if they could stay on and we of course were pleased they wanted to do so, they are all still with us, so perhaps we are doing something right.
We are also investors in people, as the younger staff are our future and we have helped produce some great stars of the future, several of our younger staff have won national accolades under Franchise and Motor Trade Apprenticeships. To date seven of them have won Apprentices of the Year Awards for Kia and Suzuki and one went onto to win the national IMI Skills Auto UK Apprentice of the year for multi franchise at the age of 21, beating all age contenders. We are the first Kia Dealer in the UK to have a Platinum level Service Advisor and now have several other Platinum and Gold level staff amongst our midst in Sales, Service & Parts. This demonstrates our support in training and staff recognition, as no business can operate successfully without good people. Today we have three apprentices in training for service and parts.
The continued and planned expansion of the Company has seen the franchises represented change over the years, but the core of the business is now firmly based around Kia and Suzuki new vehicle franchises. We have long heritages with both of these brands, starting with Suzuki in 1982 and Kia in 1999, making us one of the longest serving dealers in either franchise. We also offer the full range of pre-owned family cars, MPV's, estates, specialist SUV's, 4x4's, and Wheelchair or Scooter Accessible vehicles, offering an unrivalled choice of vehicles and value for money. We are also proud to have earned Platinum Kia Dealer status in 2008, demonstrating our high standards and customer care ethics.
We supply retail customers, small business, and fleet customers alike, we are a specialist Motability dealer and a Kia and Suzuki Fleet Dealer. We are currently supplying numerous local and national Blue Chip end users who appreciate service and commitment in aftercare.
All of our sales staff are trained to exacting standards set by the respective franchises and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). They are accredited as financial advisors under this FCA auspice and that of the Finance & Leasing Association. We also have a dedicated team of sales and service Motability accredited staff. This is to ensure that our customers only receive professional and unpressured advice on their purchase and aftercare, after all buying any vehicle is a serious commitment. All sales and front of house staff are also trained under Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) for the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.
Our state of the art Aftersales, MOT & Preparation Centre at Mile Cross Lane in Norwich supports the Group's core activities and we believe very firmly in customer satisfaction. (Check out our reviews and testimonials) All of our staff are factory trained, they attend regular updates and courses, and they are DVSA approved in the case of MOT Testers. We are proud to have several Master Technicians Accredited for the Kia and Suzuki franchises. Since July 2016, we now have four trained and accredited Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Specialists to look after the Kia and Suzuki models. All of our technicians are trained and accredited to work on your vehicle air conditioning, using the very latest equipment, covering both types of air conditioning gas services.
Combined our current technical workforce (young and old) has over 300 years of all makes experience under their belts. We also offer a complete range of Bodywork and Accident Repair services through our Approved Body Centres. We operate Smart Repairs for cosmetic repairs to paint, panel, interior plastics, and alloy wheels employing several Technicians for this sole purpose. We offer fast fit options like tyres, batteries, air conditioning, wheel alignment and exhausts to name but a few items.
We have introduced a wide range of service options including fixed price value services and 3 year inflation proof service plans on all makes of vehicle to assist with the maintenance, MOT and repairs. With Kia we also offer the unique Kia Care 3 & 3+ packages for fixed price servicing up to 5 years. We operate the 'Kia Family Like Care' programme. With Suzuki, we also offer Suzuki Service Plans and operate the 'Suzuki Service Promise'. Our Parts Store offers a complete range of manufacturer approved parts and accessories to ensure your vehicles are kept at optimum performance. We use the industry leading engine oils, lubes and additives to keep your car in tip top condition (over 20 grades currently in stock).
However, despite all of this, we strive to provide family like care and good old fashion service with a smile. That is why our motto is Nobody Tries Harder Than NMG...Nobody!
We are open 5 and half days a week for service, MOT and parts for your added convenience. We also operate a Courtesy Bus, a fleet of courtesy cars and a collection and delivery service locally. Our sales departments remain open 7 days, including most Bank Holidays, in fact we currently only close 3 days per annum for holiday (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Easter Sunday).
We are supporters of our local community and you will see from our "NMG in the Community" and "News & Events" pages that we try and support many local groups, schools and clubs. Each year we raise money for and donate to local charities.
The motor industry is evolving at a rapid pace and we must continue to grow and change or we will get left behind. We are therefore committed to evolution and change, and we want and encourage likeminded employees.
