Bob Wade owner and operator of Stratton Cabs recently swapped his Ford Galaxy MPV and Peugeot 407 Diesel Estate for two Kia Sedona Diesel MPV's which he purchased from Kia Sales Executive Ben Hopes; and struck a sponsorship deal with NMG for the service contract. Mr Wade said of Kia " The vehicle offered me so much more value for money as well as the comfort, room and luxury my customers and clients expect, I am delighted so far with the Sedona's".

Trevor Forkes, Kia Sales Manager added that he was delighted with the deal and especially with Ben Hopes, as Ben had only recently joined the company and the motor trade and this was a testament to his commitment to the job.

KARTING SUCCESS

Team NMG won their first trophy at the karting. Team NMG Kia which included Keith Sivier, Ollie Forkes and Daniel Burgess turned in a stonking performance and took 2nd place after starting 5th on the grid. Ollie ended his session putting the team into 3rd place, Daniel then put in a great aggressive drive taking them in to 2nd place followed by snarling Sivier who maintained 2nd place ,they really did us proud. The fastest lap time in the team went to Ollie Forkes with a 52.90 seconds only 0.62 tenths of a second slower than the overall fastest lap of the night, which went to the winners Wrights Mazda. Team NMG Ssangyong included Tony Burns, Daniel Thorpe, Ben Jones & Lee Horton finished in 12th place. Team NMG Suzuki included Ben Hopes, Daniel Coverdale, Stuart Higgins & Luke Roberts finished in 14th place out of 14, but hey they can only get better.

Funny moments during the night must include Keith's comment regarding Ben Hopes who had one or two slides and mishaps during the evening to which Keith said "I knew when I was passing Ben Hopes because he was coming toward me and I saw his face".

Also Ben Jones who asked " do you go flat out on all the bends" to which we said "oh yes" soon found his self on 1st name terms with most of the crash barriers and tyre walls. But as the night went on he did get much better. Overall a good night was had by all but most important of all we beat team Lotus Sport 1 (who finished 4th)

KIA Motors named Global Automotive Manufacturer of the year 2007

KIA Motors has been named 'Global Automotive Manufacturer of the Year 2007' by the UK's Institute of Transport Management (ITM) in its recent report into global manufacturing processes and companies operating within the industry.

The award recognizes the considerable progress KIA Motors has made in promoting sustainable development within the industry. Amongst both product and next generation initiatives, the report recognizes the advanced technological solutions KIA has implemented to minimize energy and water consumption, emissions and waste at its manufacturing plants. It anticipates a year of continued expansion for the KIA brand in which it's first European production facility and its second Chinese production facility will become fully operational, increasing sales from overseas production to almost half a million units per year by 2008.

While the automotive industry continues to place great importance on new creative concepts in product design and development, KIA has responded by developing an exciting range of vehicles from the Picanto to the extremely popular Sorento SUV. As a result the KIA brand is rapidly gaining a world-class reputation. It can now count itself as one of the top automotive producers in the world; selling more than one million cars per year.

Design chief aims to repeat his success at Audi

SEOUL - After several SUVs debuted at the Paris auto show in September, Kia design chief Peter Schreyer compared their profiles to the company's Sportage SUV.

Most were indistinguishable, but the Sportage "sticks out," Schreyer says. Even so, he says, he will make the next Sportage "more masculine and sporty."

Schreyer, 53, hired by Kia five months ago, aims to remake the design look of the entire Kia line. He is likely to repeat the methods he used at Audi - completely redoing one car at a time - until all Kias share a family look.

"We have the challenge and opportunity to shape the Kia brand," he tells Kia staffers.

Push it, refine it

Although Kia says it wants its cars to be exciting and enabling, Schreyer says that's not enough. "Every company's cars are exciting and enabling," he says. "We need to build up the design philosophy and influence the brand values. I want to push it, to refine it."

One task will be to distinguish Kia's products from its sister brand, Hyundai, but Schreyer is not obsessed with that.

"My thinking all day long is not how to differentiate from Hyundai; I think all day how to make Kia a unique brand. Otherwise, I'd spend all day running away," he says.

Before the German native joined Kia, he spent his career at Volkswagen and Audi.

Schreyer helped change Audi's bland look by redoing the styling of the entire product line, starting with the A2. He is best known as the stylist behind the iconic Audi TT.

He implies that Kia will go through the same sort of transformation. That suggests he will restyle each car completely, one at a time, rather than tweaking all Kia nameplates slightly as soon as possible.

"It took 20 years for Audi to get where it is," Schreyer says.

Hints of change

A trio of recent Kia concept cars show the first hints at Schreyer's design direction for the Korean brand.

They are the Kue crossover concept, designed in California and unveiled in January at the Detroit auto show; the ex_cee'd convertible, designed at Kia's studio in Germany and unveiled at the Geneva show; and the KND-4, an SUV designed at Kia's studio in Korea and unveiled at the Seoul auto show this month.

The concepts indicate not only Kia's styling direction but Schreyer's plans for using its three studios.

Some companies treat the studios that are far away from headquarters as subordinate satellites. Schreyer says he won't do that.

"I want to see them as a trilogy," he says. "I want the designers in the studios to feel like one team."

Although he is based in Frankfurt, Schreyer visits Seoul monthly for about a week at a time. He usually meets the heads of the three studios then.

Kia's studios outside Korea won't be relegated to working on concept cars only.

"At the moment, all three are working on serious production cars," Schreyer says. "This is also because we have a lot of work to do."

Rio and Optima were both recipients of the award in 2006, however this is the first time eight different models in the 11-vehicle Kia lineup have received the distinguished accolade.

British Junior Golf sponsorship falls through

It is with considerable regret that SYUK Cars Ltd and NMG must inform all parents and junior players that we have been unable as planned to continue our sponsorship with BJG for the Summer Tour due to contractual differences.

We had hoped to continue, as the feedback we have received personally was excellent and we had hoped to promote the Summer Tour with another Final to be held at Dunston Hall. Sadly as BJG had already committed themselves to a final at the Belfry, there was limited opportunity for SYUK Cars Ltd and NMG to continue on what is after all a commercial sponsorship costing many thousands of pounds.

We would like to wish all the juniors, all the parents and the BJG continued success with their golf and thank you all for the excellent feedback we have received concerning our involvement.

4x4's HIT BY CHANCELLORS TAX HIKE!

Despite the Chancellor imposing further road fund tax hikes on 4x4 users in the Budget, he has somewhat missed the point. People who buy 4x4 and SUV vehicles are not all of the Farming fraternity (some of best and most loyal customers), many will never go off road, but do need a large, spacious, rugged and 5 or 7 seat vehicle. There is then the fact that many of our 4x4 customers are serious business users, Builders, Construction Workers, Veterinarians, Chandlers; and above all ‘towers’, pulling caravans, boats, trailers and the like, hence 4x4's and SUV’s are more suited to lifestyle than many other vehicles available today. Increasingly the physical size of people generally, and the size of families has seen an increase, as better diet and better healthcare has evolved. Therefore customer demand to purchase 4x4's and SUV's exists; it is not all 'Chelsea Tractor Brigade ' as the Chancellor, the media and the misguided believe.

At NMG we care as much as the next person about the environmental issues and we do recognize that something has to be done globally to curb emissions, taxing 4x4's and other 'emission high vehicles' clearly will have some impact, it will raise awareness further of the Green Issues and of course it raises massive amounts of revenue for the Government easily, 'Lets hit the motorists again'.

However, consider this please, this year alone the various car manufacturers and importers will release a further 25 new models into the UK during 2007, which encompass the 4x4 and crossover 4x4/4x2 and SUV sectors alone. Taxing these vehicles will not stop the manufacturers and importers bring these cars into the market. Even if they could turn off the production cycle today (which they cannot), it would take years to sell off and sell out of the pre-built production. The impact on the UK employment market and global economy would be massive, millions would be unemployed, as the diverse number of businesses involved in the component supply, the manufacturer and the distribution of these vehicles is endless.

Not all 4x4's are 'gas guzzlers' not all 4x4's are high emission vehicles, the latest generation of modern diesel and petrol engines are super efficient and in some cases can out perform some production cars when it comes to fuel efficiency and emissions. In our ranges of vehicles we have some of the best 4x4’s and SUV’s available, many awards and accolades have been won, these are not given because of looks alone. So all we ask is that the media who just love a platform to sell newspapers and those who are misinformed, climb off their soap boxes and find out more about 4x4's and SUV's. Not all of them are bad, not all drivers and owners are irresponsible and certainly, whatever happens, and the production and sale of these types of vehicles is not finished. Taxed we might be, but ready to give in, never.

People must be allowed to choose what they want from their motoring and how best to deliver their needs in a vehicle of their choice.

One of Europe's most prestigious motor shows, Geneva was the perfect venue for the world premieres of the all new stylish Kia Cee'd Sporty Wagon, the Kia Ex_Cee’d cabriole concept, and the first ever appearance of the hi tech, half fuel, half electric Kia Rio Hybrid in Europe.

Based on the new Kia Cee’d hatchback, with similar styling, the Kia Cee’d Sporty Wagon boasts an unusually long wheelbase, top of its class luggage and passenger space and for maximum accessibility boasts a unique extended tailgate to the luggage area. Instead of following suit with most new cabrios, Kia have decided to stick with the traditional fabric roof opposed to the now widely used detachable hard top. In recent years Kia have shown that they are making massive steps forward in the hybrid vehicle market with huge expansions of their Korean facility for hybrid vehicles. At this years show in Geneva they proved this by introducing a hybrid fuel version of the already popular Kia Rio. As part of the countries on going efforts to creating eco-friendly cars, Kia and Hyundai have been commissioned to build 3,390 hybrid vehicles over the next two years for the Korean Ministry of the Environment.

Sometimes known as the Kia Pride, the Rio Hybrid sedan features a unique powertrain with a 1.4-litre, 90ps petrol engine combined with a 12kW, 95 Nm AC electric motor and adapted gearbox.

During pull offs, hill starts and climbs and general traffic idling, the electric motor is engaged to put less strain on the engine and therefore use less fuel. During normal driving and motorway driving the electric motor switches off. To recharge the power pack, the electric motor uses energy from braking and deceleration.

The hybrid Rio is the first Kia to use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which switches between fuel and electric and also employs a computer controlled stop/start motoring system which switches both the fuel engine and electric motor off whenever the car comes to a complete standstill, in traffic for example, for more than a few seconds.

The Kia Rios weight has also been cut right down by 220kg by using special lightweight components. This was required to take the strain off the electric motor so it doesn’t overwork. This results of an impressive 0-60 in 12.2 seconds and a top speed of 111mph. The fuel consumption is also one of the best in its class due to the dual power engine using on average 53.4 mpg. Air pollution has also been cut by 37% and efficiency is improved by 44%.

Kia's Ex_Cee'd Sports Cabrio Concept

Kia, one of the fastest growing car manufacturers in the world, have released a concept of their first ever convertible car. Based on the Pro_Cee'd, which uses the companies new Kia Cee'd as a base, the ex_cee'd Cabrio Concept was born. Set to make its official debut in Geneva next month, the ex_cee'd is the first vehicle designed under the company's new design chief, Peter Schreyer.

The new Kia cab takes the vast majority of its inspiration and stunning looks from the brand new cee'd hatchback, which is their current hopes to break into the main stream market such as the VW Golf and the Ford Focus. The roof of the new convertable is going to be made from a "romantic" soft top opposed to a metal hard top and the car also features uniquely designed 19" wheels as standard!

Kia will be showing their wares at the latest Geneva show including the concept Kia pro_cee'd, the Kia Cee'd station wagon and the Kia Rio Hybrid.

The Ceed station wagon in particular riding on an extended wheelbase, 10 inches longer than the five-door hatch and boasts an impressive 18.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row - 7 cubic feet more than the hatchback.

Taverham Youth FC

We were pleased to sponsor the Taverham Youth Football Club for three seasons in which Ollie Forkes son of our Kia Sales Manager played as their right wing.

The team played their home matches at the Taverham High School under team coach Andy Chapel and finished second in 2006 in the league, an excellent result.

For three years the team have been in the NENYL (North East Norfolk Youth League) they have finished in the top three, showing their passion for the game and their prowess.

This photograph is dedicated to the memory of one of the organisers and a faithful supporter of NMG, Mr Brian Snowie. Brian was also very active in the local adult speedway and was attempting to bring back speedway to Norwich.

NMG were also sponsors of the Mildenhall Speedway, again this was down to Brian's passion and enthusiasm for the sport, he will be sorely missed.

Three Peaks Challenge

NMG were pleased to supply the Sedona 7 seater as a support vehicle to the Three Peaks Challenge Team.

The Three Peaks Challenge is a gruelling ascent on the three highest peaks in the UK, Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdonia, all three being completed inside of 24 hours, most of which has to be completed in the darkness of the night.

The team raised money for charity and in particular The Bryan Gunn Leukaemia Cancer Awareness Charities & The Norfolk Age Concern Charity. Altogether the team raised over £1,500 towards these appeals.

NMG Sponsored Cliff Park High School at the recent 2006 Gothia Youth World Cup Football Tournament held in Gothenburg Sweden.
In total 1,260 teams from 68 countries played a gruelling series of knock out matches watched by over 10,000 supporters and spectators.

Cliff Park suffered at the hands of SG Borken of Germany when the infamous German penalty curse saw them loose in the shoot out 5:4 in their valiant third round qualifier. The eventual winners were a surprise nation, the ‘Kampala Kids’ from Uganda who thoroughly deserved their win.

Marcus Johnson said on behalf of Cliff Park, that he and his fellow team mates really enjoyed the tournament and the chance to travel to Sweden and play against other clubs. They hope to qualify again for next year’s tournament, and already their PE Teacher Andrew Innes who organised the tour is setting the plans into motion for 2007.

Red Lodge Karting Success 2006

Paul Brown our very own Master Technician and Quality Controller recently finished second again in the

Red Lodge
Pro-Kart
Championship Heavyweight Class.

Having come second in 2005 Paul had hoped to finish in first place in 2006 but was narrowly pipped at the post and finished in a very proud and creditable second position.

Paul has raced Karts for many years and NMG were naturally pleased to sponsor one of thier own staff to compete in this class of karting. NMG have helped Paul by supporting his racing and helping him with sponsorship of his van.

Paul races in the heavyweight section and has custom built his own Kart and converted his van to house a full Kart ramp, mobile workshop and hospitality unit.

Paul has bought a new kart for the 2007 season and we wish him well as his dedication and passion for the sport shows at every opportunity.

Next year Paul hopes to finish in first place and NMG are proud to support him in his endeavours.

Suzuki Apprentice Of The Year 2006 & 2005

James does it again, he wins the Suzuki Apprentice Of The Year 2006 for the second year running against very stiff competition.

Following a difficult year in which he suffered a very serious motorbike accident, James was chuffed to bits to win again; and NMG are extremely proud to have such a keen, knowledgeable and dedicated Technician in our midst. Well Done James.

James had previously won the Suzuki Apprentice Of The Year in 2005 in his first year of training.

He was again awarded the coveted prize after completing a second year of training at the new Suzuki Apprentice Training School, he also sat a series of exams and a gruelling final interview process.

James picked up his second national award from Suzuki Cars GB ; NMG were delighted with his success and also made him a second special cash award on his return to the business.

NMG In The Community

NMG are pleased to involve themselves in the local community and undertake several projects each year. Although we would like to undertake more it is very difficult to know where to stop, as literally each year we receive dozens of requests for worthwhile causes.

Here are just a few examples...

As we embark on 2007 we have already committed to several clubs and associations but our biggest single sponsorship deal is the British Junior Golf Tour as detailed above. We are delighted to give our full backing to this worthwhile intiative and who knows, perhaps a local junior can walk away with the Grand Final.

During 2006 we were pleased to provide sponsorship deals to several local schools and clubs in the form of football strips.

We have also supported the Sprowston High School by hosting a visit from a group of young men and women who are interested in joining the motor trade when they start their working career.

The day was spent in our dealership giving them a unique insight into the motor trade and hopefully several may take up the challenge of this new career.

We are also extremely keen to promote excellence in our staff and shown below are two stories which give examples of our own staff sponsorship concepts.

We have also shown several other sponsorship programmes to demonstrate that NMG are proud to be associated with local youth and the promotion of teamwork, character building and community themes.

In recent years we have sponsored the Plymouth to Dakar Rally for one of our customers Andy Thompson, who competed in this whacky but hazardous race across the deserts of Northern Africa. This was done in a Pink Suzuki 413 4x4 which had to cost less than £100, now there is commitment and faith in a Suzuki.

Andy raised over £3,000 for Breast Cancer Charities. Andy obvioulsy missed his true vocation in life as he later competed in the Gambia School Run project in April 2006 taking much needed school supplies via a convoy of ex military Landrovers

We have sponsored a junior snow ski racer T.J Baldwin of Tharston whose heart is set on winning the Winter Olympic Gold for England. T.J. is the current under 18 British Ski Champion and he trains at the British Ski Academy in France

Further sponsorship of the Bryan Gunn Leukaemia Appeal took place at the Mayday Office Equipment Golf Day in aid of the charity set up after Bryans daughter Francesca died of this awful desease.

NMG also supported the Community First Responder Scheme and the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust when one of it's former employees Michael Riches a trained paramedic and community police officer requested support for this vital intiative.

Mark Banham another of our customers received support when he entered the Suzuki Ignis Endurance Rally Car into the National Champoinships. NMG were happy to provide much needed essential spares for his racing.

And there have been several donations to local charities, schools, playgroups and worthy causes.

Details on the Kia Pro_Cee'd (Pro_Ceed)

The Kia Pro_Ceed is a sporty 3 door version of the family Kia Cee'd released this month in the UK. The concept model was shown at the Paris motor show late last year, and is due to be released some time in 2007.

The Kia Pro_cee’d concept was developed by Kia’s team in Russelsheim under it’s design chief Gegory Guillaume. The concept comes in a colour Kia called Cashew - which is somewhat like a flat brown but with a small percentage of metal flakes to give it a little sparkle. The pro_cee’d has a roofline 25mm lower compared to the production 5-door cee’d, to give it a sportier image. Further enhancing it’s sporty image is the huge 19 inch wheels that fill up the wheel arches, wrapped with 265/30/R19 tyres.

The popular Kia Sorento has been given a makeover for 2007!

More power has been added to both the petrol and diesel engines, more comfort and safety features have been installed inside and outside the cabin, and the appearance has been boosted inside and out.

Five versions of the Kia Sorento 4x4 complete the model line-up for the European market. Kia Motors Corporation is also planning to sell 200,000 units around the world over the next two years.

200,000 facelift model Kia Sorentos are expected to be sold around the world, of which half of that is expected to be in the United States. This is according to Matthew Fenech, director of Easysell Kia in Malta.

At a recent launch of the new facelift Kia Sorento, Mr French emphasised the continuing quality of build that the population has come to associate with Kia's range of sporty, family, luxury and commercial vehicles.

Since it was launched in 2002, the Sorento has been greeted with enthusiasm and the model has sold consistently well. "This gave us a lot of satisfaction," he said. Client surveys had also shown a high level of satisfaction from all aspects.

Positioned as a premium SUV (sports utility vehicle), the Sorento is powered by a 2.5-litre CRDi diesel. There is a choice of LX and EX trim and five-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

The 2,497 cc double overhead camshaft four-cylinder in-line common-rail, high pressure, direct injection diesel produces a maximum power of 170 ps at 3,800 rpm and 392 Nm of torque (pulling power) at 2,000 rpm.
