DARRELL DELANEY Technician of The Year
I am delighted to announce that Darrell has achieved OVERALL FIRST PLACE for the whole of the UK in the above competition run in conjunction with the Institute of the Motor Industry. You will recall I announced his success in getting through to the nationals in May of this year after his success in the regional finals. This latest success follows on from Darrell taking Kia's Technical Apprentice of the Year recently too. What a fantastic year for him - very well done.
Beating 28 other finalists over 2 days, Darrell had to undertake a set of gruelling practical and theory tests, each test lasting two hours, covering every aspect of vehicle diagnostics and repair scenarios, on all makes of vehicle not just Kia. The SkillAuto competitions are judged by a panel of industry specialists and experts. Darrell could now be selected for the UK National squad to represent the UK in Brazil in 2015 at the World Finals of Auto Skills.
Darrell has done himself, NMG and Kia proud indeed. I offer on behalf of all the Directors and I ask you to offer, your hearty congratulations to Darrell on this achievement.
Darrell received a Gold Medal award from the Skills Auto Team and can now qualify under IMI requirements for letters after his name.
In addition to his title and medal, Darrell was rewarded by NMG with a suitable cash prize, a trip and guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, a day at the Bentley Factory and a trip to London for the IMI Dinner and Awards ceremony
I would now urge every other technician and apprentice to try and achieve Master Technician status with any of our franchises; this competition is a practical skills and depth of knowledge test and reflects Darrell's passion for the work.
Well done Darrell.
