Table Tennis Championships
Played at Watton Sports Centre on Sunday 8th March 2015. This year saw a record entry of over 50 players for the Annual Championships of the NMG Wymondham & District Table Tennis League, with each of the three divisions strongly represented. Shaun Parsley took home the Open Singles title, beating Seraphim Melo by three games to one in a closely contested final. The Open Doubles were won by Dan Gigli and Francis Webb, with a win against Hungarian pair Arpad Berger and Roland Martin in the final.
Arpad made up for this disappointment though with victory in the Veteran's Singles, rolling back the years to triumph over Stuart Laws.
Zoe Watters won the Ladies' Singles, once again proving herself just too strong for the rest of the field. It was another good day for Zoe who went on to win the Mixed Doubles event with partner Ollie Thompson-Hall, but they were made to work hard in the final by Bethany Kelf and Chris Holmes.
Youngster Ben Kelf was one of the stars of the day, winning the Handicap Singles with a hard fought victory over Chris Holmes in the final. Ben may not have had to win as many points as his opponents through the event, but his shot making and attitude made it a well-deserved title.
Dev Mahatme demonstrated why he is close to top of the averages with a comfortable win over Roger Godfrey in the climax of the Division 1 Singles. Roger didn't go home empty handed though, winning the Division 1 Doubles with partner Jim Offord.
There was a similar situation in Division 2, where Gavin Bickerton-Jones recovered from being beaten in the Singles final to win the Doubles alongside Paul Jackson. It was the ever-improving youngster, Cameron Verney who was victorious in the Singles.
NMG Managing Director Grant Long was in attendance to present the trophies and prizes to the winners, which were made possible by their kind sponsorship of the League and the event. The day was a great success and good fun was had by all.
